Sales Tax Compliance
Determine Sales Tax Obligations: Assess and determine the sales tax obligations based on business activities, product types, and jurisdictions
Collect Sales Tax: Ensure proper collection of sales tax on transactions according to state and local regulations
Prepare Sales Tax Returns: Accurately complete and file sales tax returns on a regular basis (monthly, quarterly, or annually) as required
Review Sales Tax Exemptions: Verify and apply sales tax exemptions and exclusions for eligible transactions and entities
Implement Sales Tax Policies: Develop and implement internal policies and procedures for accurate sales tax collection and remittance
Monitor Sales Tax Rates: Keep track of changes in sales tax rates and apply them appropriately to transactions
Conduct Sales Tax Audits: Perform internal audits to ensure compliance with sales tax regulations and identify any discrepancies
Train Staff on Sales Tax Procedures: Provide training to staff on sales tax procedures and compliance requirements
Manage Sales Tax Refunds: Handle the process of claiming and managing sales tax refunds for overpayments or exemptions
Advise on Sales Tax Issues: Provide guidance on complex sales tax issues, such as product taxability and jurisdictional questions
Use Tax Compliance
Determine Use Tax Obligations: Identify use tax obligations for purchases where sales tax was not collected by the seller
Accrue Use Tax: Calculate and accrue use tax on taxable purchases where sales tax was not charged
Prepare Use Tax Returns: Complete and file use tax returns, ensuring accurate reporting and payment
Review Use Tax Exemptions: Evaluate and apply use tax exemptions for qualifying purchases and transactions
Implement Use Tax Procedures: Establish and maintain procedures for tracking and reporting use tax obligations
Monitor Changes in Use Tax Laws: Stay updated on changes in use tax laws and regulations affecting compliance
Conduct Use Tax Audits: Perform internal audits to ensure accurate use tax reporting and identify any areas of noncompliance
Provide Use Tax Training: Educate staff on use tax requirements, including how to identify and report taxable purchases
Handle Use Tax Audits: Manage and respond to audits or inquiries from tax authorities related to use tax compliance
Advise on Use Tax Strategies: Offer strategies to minimize use tax liabilities and manage compliance risks
Nexus Analysis
Assess Nexus Criteria: Evaluate business activities and physical presence to determine nexus (taxable presence) in various jurisdictions
Conduct Nexus Studies: Perform detailed studies to analyse nexus and identify where the business has tax obligations
Review Business Activities: Analyse business operations, including sales, leases, and employee activities, to assess nexus implications
Evaluate Online Presence Impact: Assess the impact of online sales and digital presence on nexus requirements
Prepare Nexus Documentation: Document nexus findings and maintain records to support compliance and reporting
Advise on Nexus Planning: Provide strategic advice on managing and planning for nexus issues to optimize tax positions
Monitor Nexus Changes: Keep track of changes in nexus laws and regulations and adjust business practices accordingly
