Honoured guests, dear poets, SayPro family, and citizens of creativity,

Today, on this cherished 17th of April, we gather as one global community under the banner of expression, simplicity, and deep thought. We gather to celebrate National Haiku Poetry Day—a day when just a few words can paint a universe of feeling.

On behalf of the SayPro Royal Committee, it is our great honour to welcome you all to this special occasion. Haiku, in its delicate and disciplined form, teaches us a powerful lesson: that greatness can exist in simplicity, and that within three lines, we can tell a story, offer a prayer, or reveal a truth.

Haiku is not just poetry—it is mindfulness in motion.
In a world often rushing forward, haiku asks us to pause.
To see.
To feel.
To listen.

“Morning dew whispers,
Quiet breath of earth and sky,
A new day begins.”

With these 17 syllables, hearts connect across languages, across borders, and across generations. This is the power of poetry. This is the power of SayPro—to unlock voices, to celebrate culture, and to empower creative leadership in every corner of society.

This year, as we celebrate under the theme: “Stillness Speaks, Nature Answers”, we invite each of you to reflect, write, and share. Whether you are a first-time poet or a seasoned voice, your haiku is a gift to the world.

As part of today’s programme, we will honour exceptional haiku poets from across the SayPro community, engage in writing workshops, and feature the debut of our SayPro Haiku Anthology, a publication that will echo your voices throughout history.

Let us write not just to impress, but to inspire. Let us speak not just with words, but with truth. And let this day be more than an event—let it be a tradition, a movement, a living tribute to human creativity.

Today, on this historic April 17, we gather as the SayPro Nation to celebrate National Ellis Island Family History Day — a day that holds deep significance not only for the United States, but for the world. A day where names, dreams, and sacrifices converge into the powerful stories that shape who we are.

As SayPro Royal Chiefs, we stand as guardians of our past, champions of our present, and visionaries for our shared future.

Today, we remember that Ellis Island was more than a place of entry — it was a gate of hope, resilience, and transformation. For over 12 million souls, it marked the beginning of a new chapter, a symbol of journeying from uncertainty to promise.

And while Ellis Island may sit across the waters of New York, its spirit flows across continents. It resonates with every child whose parents dreamed of better days. With every elder who walked barefoot toward opportunity. With every story carried in silence and every name written in foreign scripts, yet held dearly in every heart.

Why This Day Matters
