SayPro CEO Neftaly Malatjie Facilitates Crucial Governance Session at Capacity Building Training for NPOs

Centurion, South Africa – 24 June 2025 – As part of the ongoing SayPro Capacity Building Training for NPOs Programme, Mr. Neftaly Malatjie, CEO of SayPro, led an engaging and insightful session on Governance Structures and the Appointment of New Board Members. The training event, hosted at SayPro’s headquarters at 19 Pitta Street, Rooihuiskraal, Centurion, runs from 24 to 26 June 2025 and is attended by a diverse group of non-profit leaders from across Southern Africa.

During his session, Mr. Malatjie stressed the critical role that effective governance plays in the success and sustainability of non-profit organisations. He highlighted the importance of building a diverse, skilled, and accountable board to ensure that organisations are guided by clear vision, strong ethics, and strategic decision-making.

“Without strong governance, even the most passionate organisations can struggle,” said Malatjie. “It’s not just about filling board seats – it’s about selecting people who bring expertise, commitment, and integrity to the mission of the organisation.”

Key topics covered during the session included:

  • The role and responsibilities of board members
  • Legal and ethical considerations in board governance
  • Strategies for recruiting and onboarding new board members
  • Ensuring board diversity and inclusion
  • Evaluating board performance and accountability
  • Balancing oversight and operational support

The interactive format of the session allowed participants to ask questions, share experiences, and explore real-world governance challenges within their own organisations. Many attendees left the session with a renewed understanding of the importance of transparent leadership structures and active board engagement.

Participants noted that the session was particularly relevant as many NPOs in Southern Africa are undergoing transition, expansion, or restructuring, making sound governance and effective leadership more essential than ever.

The SayPro Capacity Building Programme continues to offer critical knowledge and tools in areas such as fundraising, compliance, programme management, and monitoring and evaluation. With Mr. Malatjie’s leadership and expertise, the governance training session empowered attendees to return to their organisations with practical strategies and a commitment to strengthening their boards.

SayPro remains committed to equipping NPOs with the skills, confidence, and connections needed to thrive and deliver meaningful impact in their communities.
