OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY ACT 85 OF 1993:

ASSIGNMENT OF DUTIES TO FIRE FIGHTER

You are hereby appointed as a fire fighter and as a member of the firefighting team and acknowledge that you have undergone suitable training (minimum of 2 days) in fire protection, prevention and fighting. Your area of responsibility is as follows:

Area of Responsibility:    OFFICE AREA

You are to ensure that all firefighting equipment within this area is in good working condition and that the fire access to this equipment is clear and unobstructed.

Ensure that all employees working in the area that you are designated for are aware of your appointment as the fire team member.

Do not endanger yourself and/or fellow employees’ safety in the event of a fire. Your principal aim as a fire team member is to prevent fires and to notify the authorities if and when a fire occurs.

When a fire occurs in your area, sound the emergency alarm; then take action against the fire, using the fire equipment provided.

Ensure that you report to your fire marshal when the emergency alarm is sounded and follow instructions given by your fire marshal.
