Position Overview: Director of Monitoring and Evaluation
The Director of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) oversees the comprehensive monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) framework for all of SayPro’s projects and initiatives. This strategic leadership role is responsible for ensuring that the organization’s programs are effectively tracked, evaluated for their impact, and adjusted as necessary to optimize performance and results. The Director will manage the Monitoring and Evaluation Monitoring Office, guide data-driven decision-making, and report to the executive leadership on program outcomes.
As a key member of the senior leadership team, the Director ensures that all programs and initiatives are implemented with proper evaluation mechanisms and aligned with SayPro’s organizational goals. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong experience in M&E systems, data analysis, and the ability to engage and collaborate with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership of Monitoring & Evaluation:
- Develop and lead the overall M&E strategy to track the progress, performance, and impact of all programs, ensuring alignment with SayPro’s mission and strategic objectives.
- Oversee the design and implementation of M&E frameworks, including the creation of measurable indicators, data collection methodologies, and reporting structures.
- Set up and manage processes for continuous learning and program adjustments based on data and evaluation findings.
- Monitoring and Reporting:
- Ensure that all programs and projects are regularly monitored, and that accurate, comprehensive reports are generated.
- Lead the preparation and delivery of quarterly and annual M&E reports to internal stakeholders, including senior leadership and external partners.
- Regularly assess program performance, ensuring all strategies are on track and that any potential risks are mitigated promptly.
- Impact Assessment & Data Analysis:
- Lead efforts in analyzing the effectiveness and impact of all organizational programs and initiatives.
- Ensure high-quality analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data to generate insights into program performance.
- Guide the implementation of impact assessments and ensure that lessons learned are integrated into future programming.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration:
- Foster strong relationships with key stakeholders, including program managers, senior leadership, donors, and partners.
- Ensure that stakeholders are regularly updated on the progress of monitoring and evaluation activities.
- Coordinate feedback loops and engage with stakeholders to incorporate their insights into ongoing evaluations.
- Capacity Building and Mentorship:
- Build the capacity of internal teams by providing guidance, training, and mentorship in M&E best practices.
- Provide leadership and supervision to the Monitoring and Evaluation Monitoring Office and other M&E staff, ensuring they are equipped to effectively carry out their roles.
- Advocate for a culture of learning and accountability, ensuring that teams apply M&E findings to improve their work.
- Quality Assurance and Compliance:
- Ensure that SayPro’s M&E practices adhere to the highest standards of quality and ethical compliance.
- Review M&E methodologies, ensuring that all data is reliable, valid, and collected in accordance with ethical guidelines.
- Monitor compliance with donor requirements and ensure transparency in reporting.
- Innovation in M&E Approaches:
- Stay current with emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in monitoring and evaluation.
- Introduce innovative approaches and tools to enhance SayPro’s M&E systems, including new data analysis methods, digital tools, and learning platforms.
- Encourage the use of advanced analytics, machine learning, and predictive tools to improve M&E insights and decision-making.
Skills and Qualifications
- Educational Background:
- A Master’s degree in Monitoring and Evaluation, Public Administration, International Development, Data Analytics, or a related field is required.
- Professional certifications in M&E, Project Management, or Data Science are a plus.
- Experience:
- At least 7-10 years of experience in monitoring and evaluation within a nonprofit, public sector, or international development context.
- 3-5 years in a senior leadership role, managing M&E teams and overseeing the implementation of monitoring systems.
- Extensive experience working on impact evaluations, program assessments, and managing data analysis for large-scale programs.
- Technical Skills:
- Expertise in M&E methodologies, including data collection, survey design, sampling techniques, and statistical analysis.
- Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., Excel, SPSS, R, Stata, or Tableau).
- Familiarity with data management platforms, CRM tools, and survey tools (e.g., SurveyMonkey, Qualtrics, RedCap).
- Leadership and Management:
- Strong leadership skills with experience in managing and mentoring a team.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, especially in a fast-paced environment.
- Communication and Reporting:
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively present complex data insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proven ability to write clear and concise reports, presentations, and technical documentation.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience in engaging donors, partners, and clients in evaluation processes and discussions.
- Critical Thinking & Innovation:
- Ability to think strategically, critically assess complex challenges, and develop innovative solutions.
- Familiarity with advanced analytics, machine learning, and predictive modeling to enhance program evaluation.
